Sisters

As I pried my eyes open on Saturday morning to the calls of "Mommy" from the girls' room and slowly made my way toward the door, I paused for a minute to listen.  Kate was in her crib and Jane was on the other side of the room in her crib, but they were talking and laughing together.  Jane is only four months old and not really talking yet, but she was cooing in response to her sister's enthusiastic comments.  The girls share a room out of necessity but hearing this little exchange and seeing them smiling at each other as I entered the room made me grateful that they do.
I shared a room with my sister growing up.  I have great memories of jumping from bed to bed, rearranging furniture on Saturday mornings, sitting next to each other picking out toe jam while my Mom read us stories, talking and laughing late at night, and doing anything I could to make my sister laugh.  It warms my heart to see my little girls forming a similar bond.
When we brought Jane home from the hospital I carefully placed her on the bed so she would be safe.  Then we brought in Kate and the bags.  Kate immediately ran into our room, climbed up on the bed, and body slammed her sister to welcome her home.  That was the beginning of their wonderful relationship as sisters.
Jane loves her sister.  I don't really understand why because Kate is always smothering her with kisses or piling toys on top of her or screaming, "Hi Little Jane!" in her ear.  But every time she hears Kate's voice she smiles and kicks.  There is just something special about sisters!

You are so fabulous! I love your writing. And I love you! I relate so much to that Sister entry. It's amazing to see how Caleb watches, listens, and smiles at whatever Elijah does. It's awesome! So thankful for the blogging world. Can I see you at Christmas?

Ah, the days of toe jam and roses! Surely you have some more appetizing memories than that. I did love jumping from bed to bed and rearranging our furniture. My little boys get to share a room now and I think of you often when I hear them talking and laughing together long after they should be asleep. We're working hard on Joshua to convince him that doing is graduate work in Arizona would be the perfect solution. Then you could live on my street....

Shimai,
I love it! You are such a great writer. I feel like I'm right there with you. Kate and Jane are beautiful. I'm soooooo happy you started a blog. Up until now the only pictures I've seen were the ones you sent when Jane was born. It's funny how similar they look but, their features are so different in color. I love the sisters story, the hide-n-seek adventure and all the fun outings. My favorite by far was the picture of you and Josh running up the mountain. Yes,...that's my Shimai (still running:). I'm so happy to see that things are so wonderful for you on your side of the woods. Yes, we have to make a date as soon as possible. We'll have to race down the beach for the good 'ole days. Keep the posts coming. I will read every single one.

Love ya,
Des (Shimai #1)
