Fashion Sense

Kate has started to take an interest in fashion.  She compliments outfits that catch her eye.  The other day when I came out of my room and she said, "That's a nice little sweater, Mama."  She makes sure her bows match her clothes each day, "I want the pink bow because my shirt has pink.  See--same pink."  My brother Alan walked into the room a few days ago wearing a shirt that had colorful fabric accents round the collar, cuffs, and pockets.  Kate looked at his shirt and with a exclamation of pure excitement said, "Whoa!  Your shirt is crazy like a band-aid!"  By the way, being like a band-aid is the ultimate in cool when you are two years old.  She has opinions about which coat or sweater she wants to wear each day.  But her first love is shoes.  Anytime she disappears in a store I can find her sitting on the floor, surrounded by open boxes, trying on shoes.  We'll see where this takes us in fifteen years, but right now it is fun to see her facinated by something she is observing around her.
