Joshua finished school this week! Hallelujah. I don’t know if I have ever been so ready for a Christmas vacation. The girls have loved having their daddy around. After the first day when Josh was home with us Jane was crying inconsolably when I was trying to tuck her into bed. When I finally got her to tell me what was wrong she said, “Daddy will leave tomorrow.” I assured her that he would be home again the next day, but still she asks at least once a day if “Daddy has to go to school.” We drove past Wharton on our way to dinner one night and Kate started dancing in her car seat saying, “There is your school, Dad, and we don’t have to drop you off!” I think all three Woodford girls are ready for a little Joshua time.

We have done some fun Philly Christmas things this week. We went down to the Wanamaker building, the first department store in Philadelphia built in the early 20th Century, which is now Macy’s Center City. It is a very grand building in and of itself, but they also go all out for Christmas. We saw the fancy displays, the huge Christmas light show, and the Dickens’ Village telling the story of A Christmas Carol. We also had lunch at Reading Terminal Market. The food was great as usual, but there were also many local vendors with booths set up selling Christmas ornaments and gifts. It was fun to be out in the bustling city at Christmas time. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go.
In the aftermath of the sewing frenzy of last week Jane has decided that sewing is the solution to any problem. If something breaks she says, “We can sew it.” If she would like to have something that we would need to pick up at a store she says, “We can sew it.”

Last night we let the girls open their Christmas present from us. We are headed to Utah on Monday to spend Christmas with our families, so we gave our present to the girls a little early. We gave them a gymnastics mat and new leotards. As you may have noticed from previous letters, gymnastics is the highlight of Kate’s life right now and consequently also the highlight of Jane’s life. Kate’s eyes were sparkling as she discovered her long-sleeve leotard and Jane was thrilled that her leotard was “so soft.” We spent the next hour or so playing gymnastics. I was Miss Shelly and Josh was Mr. Anthony (the names of Kate’s gymnastics teachers) and the girls were the spectacular gymnasts. Our home has hard wood floors, so the mat should make practicing gymnastics a little safer for the girls and less nerve racking for the observers. Here is to many hours of tumbling fun.

We are looking forward to arriving in Utah to enjoy the holidays with family, mountains, and snow!
